Open Sky Night Program, adult place
James Turrell's Open Sky at dusk, seated, for 30 people at most, with museum entry the same day.
The Night Program is a 45-minute seated viewing of James Turrell's Open Sky as the sun goes down, held on Fridays and Saturdays for 30 people at most. An adult place is for visitors aged 16 and over and includes entry to the museum on the same day, so you can see Monet and De Maria before closing.
What happens on the evening
The group gathers at the Ticket Center at a time set by sunset, walks with the group to the museum and sits beneath Open Sky, a room whose ceiling opens to the sky. For 45 minutes you watch the colour of the sky shift as the light inside changes with it. The whole program takes about 80 minutes.
Leaving in the middle is discouraged, so plan your ferry and dinner around the full 80 minutes.
When it starts
The start follows sunset, so it changes through the year. In 2026 the group gathered at about 19:00 in June, about 17:10 in mid-October and about 16:35 from late November into December.
We send you the gathering time for your evening together with your e-ticket. On a dark winter evening, that can mean the last ferries are worth checking twice.
Seeing the rest of the museum
Your ticket includes museum entry that day, with no separate entry booking needed. During the program only Open Sky is open, so see the Monet room and Time/Timeless/No Time in the afternoon, before the museum closes at 17:00.
Who this is not for
Children aged 5 and under cannot take part, and groups of nine or more cannot book together. The program runs in rain as well as fine weather, and the ceiling is open, so it is not for anyone who would rather stay dry and warm: raincoats are the only rain gear allowed.
